Firearms Offences

The use, possession and distribution of firearms is strictly controlled in Scotland by the Firearms Act 1968. Amongst others, it is an offence to;

  • Possess a firearm without the required licence
  • Recklessly discharge a firearm
  • Carry an air weapon or any other firearm (whether loaded or not) in a public place without reasonable excuse
  • Sell or let on hire a firearm or ammunition of any other description to a person under the age of seventeen

In many areas throughout the North of Scotland, a firearm is an essential part of people’s livelihood. Whether it’s for pest control, sporting reasons or use through employment, many people have a legitimate reason to possess a firearm.

Should you find yourself charged with a firearms offence, it is crucial that you contact us to book a free consultation with one of our solicitors for advice on how to deal with the charge you are facing.
